The Cuban Ministry of the Interior, known as MININT, has apprehended a man suspected of murdering a woman in the Diputada neighborhood of Bijarú, located in the Báguanos municipality. The victim was attacked in her own home, where she was robbed of gold jewelry and cash.
The crime transpired on the night of November 22, between 8:30 and 10:00 pm. A young man, identified as Yamichel Periche Díaz, has been taken into custody, according to the pro-government Facebook page "Cazador-Cazado."
The victim, Tania Liset Hidalgo Ávila, 51, suffered a horrific death by suffocation and stabbing within her residence. Her sister discovered her body the following day. Investigators revealed that the perpetrator attempted to eradicate evidence by pouring detergent on both the victim and a chair where he allegedly sat.
Swift Justice Amid Rising Crime Rates
Despite efforts to cover up the crime, MININT experts identified and captured the suspect in less than 24 hours, recovering some of the stolen items, as noted by the official source.
Local reports suggest that the accused had significant gambling debts, which may have driven him to commit the crime. Although some details of the case remain undisclosed, authorities have promised to prosecute the case rigorously, highlighting the growing issue of public insecurity and violence against women in Cuba.
In a separate incident this week, another woman was murdered during a home robbery in Santiago de Cuba, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures to combat crime and protect citizens.
