The Cuban Interior Ministry (MININT) has announced the arrest of Alieski Martínez Ferrer, who faces accusations of murdering his own son and sexually assaulting a woman who was eight months pregnant. These shocking crimes took place in the Minas municipality of Camagüey province.

Although specific details about Martínez Ferrer's capture were not disclosed, the MININT confirmed that he was apprehended in the early hours of December 2. The ministry's brief statement mentioned that the crimes occurred on the morning of November 26 and highlighted the invaluable assistance provided by the residents of Minas. Their information was crucial in locating and apprehending the suspect.

"Legal processes are underway to ensure that justice is served," the MININT stated. Reports circulating on social media had already mentioned Martínez Ferrer's arrest prior to the official announcement. According to Facebook page La Tijera, Martínez Ferrer, who was evading capture, allegedly entered a National Revolutionary Police (PNR) station and attacked an officer with a machete before being captured.

Details of the Disturbing Incident

The young victim, Edgar Aliesky Martínez Torres, was reportedly murdered last Thursday morning in what feminist platforms have described as a "vicarious femicide." This term is used to describe extreme violence where the perpetrator targets a third party—such as children or relatives—to inflict suffering on the primary victim, in this case, the child's mother. "Such a heinous act underscores the severity of femicidal violence, exacerbated by the authorities' inaction and the complicit silence of international organizations," condemned YoSíTe Creo en Cuba and the Alas Tensas Gender Observatory (OGAT).

A Gruesome Crime

While many details remain unclear, social media reports suggest that the child was under his maternal grandmother's care when his father picked him up, allegedly with the intent to kill. Family members, however, never imagined he would harm the boy.

Martínez Ferrer reportedly strangled his son and, during his escape, assaulted a pregnant woman on her way to a medical appointment, abusing her and stealing her cell phone. The woman is currently in critical condition at Camagüey's Maternal Hospital. Due to threats made by Martínez Ferrer, the child's mother has been under police protection, as he allegedly intended to inflict the same fate upon her.

According to a post in the Facebook group "Crímenes en Cuba," the motive behind this horrific crime was reportedly the mother's refusal to continue a relationship with Martínez Ferrer.
