A Cuban musician who once played with the band Bamboleo is now living on the streets of Miami and has sent a message to the group's director, Lazarito Valdés, who recently announced plans to stay in the United States with his family. Daniel José Camarín, known as El Toki, sleeps on cardboard beneath a bridge in Downtown Miami, in a parking lot he strives to keep tidy.
"This is the work of 'El Güiro de oro de Cuba,' and I'm not ashamed for people to see it publicly," he said in a video shared on TikTok by the user Conducta. "Even though I'm homeless, I like to keep the area clean, so that I feel clean, because even if you don't have the best conditions, at least you feel blessed, clean, and organized," he explained.
Daniel, who arrived in the United States in March 2020 after spending six years with Bamboleo, expressed confusion over what issue Lázaro Valdés has with him. He accused Valdés of orchestrating a campaign against him to prevent other musicians in the U.S. from hiring him.
"Lazarito has been dedicated to this campaign, blocking me and shutting doors, and many musicians know what I'm talking about," he stated. "It's time for you to play your role. I'm open to having a dialogue with you, very peacefully. What I need is for you to tell me face to face, man to man, what I've done to you. You've been causing me trouble since Cuba," he added.
In another video, El Toki mentioned facing issues with the authorities since Florida's governor banned sleeping in public spaces. The law, which took effect on October 1, prohibits cities and counties from allowing homeless individuals to sleep in parks, sidewalks, and other public areas.
