The police in Sancti Spíritus have issued fines and warnings to at least 24 parents for their children's inappropriate behavior, with some minors even involved in criminal activities. Lieutenant Colonel Yester Reyes Marrero, a specialist from the Provincial Headquarters of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), shared with the official newspaper Escambray that three fines were imposed on parents in the Taguasco municipality due to their children's involvement in public disturbances.

In other areas of Sancti Spíritus, authorities issued warnings to 21 parents for what was termed as "educational negligence" towards their children. Reyes emphasized that this issue is being given top priority with the aim of redirecting the youth back to education and employment.

Reyes stated that authorities carried out "educational actions" with families of minors who repeatedly engage in behaviors associated with alcohol consumption, public disturbances, and even theft with force and violence. In the province's capital, 14 prevention groups from various community councils were visited to discuss the primary misconducts committed by some youth and minors.

The lieutenant colonel explained that direct work was conducted with these families to inform them about the specific characteristics of the minors involved and the potential future consequences if such behaviors continue.

Reyes spoke to the province's official media about the ongoing "national exercise for the prevention and confrontation of crime, corruption, illegal activities, and social indiscipline" currently being conducted in Cuba. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to curb the alarming rise in crime, violence, and insecurity throughout the nation.

With the usual optimism of the authorities, the officer announced that "collaborative efforts with prevention groups are underway in all municipalities and with all enforcement forces, and results are already noticeable to the public."

Weeks earlier, during a national meeting addressing these issues, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz asserted that crime rates are declining in the country, yet the public remains unaware. "While there is progress in certain areas and indicators, the people have yet to see the outcomes, which is our goal. Nonetheless, some trends indicate that our efforts are starting to yield results, but this will only be evident when the public can perceive it," Marrero stated.

According to the statistics discussed in that meeting, which were typically withheld from public release, the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Ciego de Ávila, Cienfuegos, and Sancti Spíritus reported the highest crime rates up until August.
