Thursday, December 5, 2024 by Daniel Colon

A Cuban delivery driver in the United States is urging caution for those working with apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash following a troubling incident. In a video shared on TikTok, he recounted how a nighttime delivery of alcoholic beverages became uncomfortable, prompting him to prioritize his safety.

"I arrived to pick up the order, and as I approached the house, the customer told me they wouldn't be at the door and instructed me to enter through the wooden gate into the yard where they would be waiting. At that moment, I called support because I shouldn't have to enter anyone's yard, especially not at that hour," narrated @mr...blessing in the video posted on his profile.

He stressed the importance of safety, advising delivery drivers to steer clear of private properties: "My advice is: don't go in. Some might be aware, but others aren't. You don't know the person you're delivering to."

The video sparked thousands of reactions, with many users applauding his decision. Comments like "You did the right thing; you didn't know what you might encounter" and "Your safety is the most important" were among the most supported. Others shared similar experiences: "I had something similar happen; they told me to enter the basement at the back of the house. I left it at the front door and left."

Some users took the opportunity to highlight real risks associated with these jobs. "Remember the case in Tampa where a delivery driver was killed after entering a house," one follower noted, while another added, "You never know who's on the other side. You did well not to accept those conditions."

Mr. Blessing concluded with a clear warning: "Take care of yourselves, don't let yourself be used. In this line of work, safety must always come first."

Safety Tips for Delivery Drivers

Drivers should contact support and refuse to enter any private property, prioritizing their safety. It's crucial to follow company guidelines and stay in public or well-lit areas.

What are some common safety practices for delivery drivers?

Common safety practices include staying in well-lit areas, keeping communication with the company or loved ones, and trusting instincts if a situation feels unsafe.
