Thanks to the compassionate efforts of the "Huellas" initiative, 18-year-old Alejandro Babastro Téllez from Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba, has renewed hope for mobility with the delivery of an orthopedic device from Miami. This uplifting news was shared by Johanna Jolá Álvarez, the project’s leader, who revealed on Facebook that the device was procured and transported to Cuba through the generosity of Boris Jolá.

Boris Jolá not only purchased and packed the equipment but also brought it in his luggage, acting as a vital link of hope for Alejandro's family. The activist explained that the initiative began months ago when she was contacted by Karina Téllez García, a nurse at the Hospital of Contramaestre and the young man's mother. Since then, "Huellas" committed to finding a solution to restore Alejandro's mobility after a severe accident.

Journey of the Orthopedic Device

The orthopedic equipment has arrived in Cuba, marking a significant milestone for the family. For Karina, who works tirelessly to save lives within Cuba's challenging public health system, this gesture signifies the potential for her son to walk once more.

In another update, Joá reported that the device is on its way to Santiago de Cuba, specifically to Contramaestre, where it will be handed over to Miguel Alejandro Babastro Téllez. "The device travels on Bus 3197, thanks to the support of our transporters and the cooperation of driver Soto, who warmly accepted this load of love. We also extend our gratitude to the shift supervisor, inspectors, and luggage handlers at the National Bus Terminal in Havana for their assistance and support," the activist noted.

Overcoming Criticism and Continuing the Mission

The "Huellas" project expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who trusts in their mission and enables donations to reach those in dire need. Despite facing criticism for her alleged ties with the Cuban regime, Johanna Jolá Álvarez and her project have assisted numerous families affected by natural disasters.

Recently, Jolá reminded the public that although Hurricane Rafael impacted the western region of Cuba and a massive blackout accompanied by seismic activity hit the east, the province of Guantánamo remains in crisis due to the devastation from Cyclone Oscar. She expressed her intent on Facebook to return to the area to continue supporting those in need.

Previously, she organized an online campaign to purchase a home for a family with three sick children in Ciego de Ávila, showcasing her enduring commitment to helping others.
