Authorities apprehended a man on Friday at the inter-municipal terminal in the Frank País locality, located in the Contramaestre municipality of Santiago de Cuba. The individual was identified as the owner of a shipment containing over 500 pounds of cheese and 300 pounds of beef.

The suspicious packages, left on the terminal floor, caught the attention of the Revolutionary National Police (PNR) officers. Upon inspection, it became evident that no one was willing to claim ownership, as reported by the pro-government Facebook profile "Héroes del Moncada." However, after being pointed out by locals, the authorities were able to apprehend the owner as he attempted to flee the scene.

This seizure is part of a nationwide effort to prevent and combat crime, corruption, illegal activities, and social indiscipline. Under the leadership of Miguel Díaz-Canel, this campaign has mobilized inspectors, police officers, and even students in an attempt to curb the widespread illegalities in Cuban society.

Despite years of ineffective struggle against corruption and unlawful activities, the national exercise has created an environment rife with tension and confrontation. For instance, on Friday, a violent incident occurred at the La Cuevita popular market in San Miguel del Padrón, Havana, when an inspector attacked a vendor with a knife.

Earlier in the week, several residents of Santiago de Cuba clashed with uniformed officers from the National Police due to the recent wave of product seizures and excessive fines imposed on street vendors. A video shared by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook shows numerous individuals expressing outrage at these unjust measures against self-employed workers, including the so-called "carretilleros."
