Cuban TikToker in the U.S. Discloses Earnings from Viral Video: "Prepare to Be Surprised"

Saturday, December 7, 2024 by Isabella Sanchez

Reaching millions of views on TikTok might seem like a dream for many creators, but the actual earnings from these videos depend on several lesser-known factors. Yanet, a Cuban TikToker living in Atlanta, Georgia, astonished her followers by revealing how much the platform paid her for her most successful video, which garnered 4 million views in under a week.

On her account, @yanetatlanta, she explained that despite breaking her personal record for views, this video wasn't the most lucrative for her. "You might think, 'How is that possible if more views mean more pay?' Well, my dear, it turns out that views outside the United States lower your RPM," she commented. Yanet detailed that her RPM (revenue per thousand qualified views) is usually $1.20, but it dropped to 55 cents in this instance because the video was mainly viewed outside the U.S. Additionally, only 700,000 of the views qualified for monetization.

The bottom line: earnings of just over $400. "Despite everything, I feel it's quite a bit of money for one video," she added. In comparison, a previous video that reached a million views allowed her to earn more than $600, as she explained last October.

The topic sparked curiosity and questions among her followers. Many inquired about how TikTok monetization works and how to improve RPM, while others shared their own experiences: "The same happens to me, my videos go to South America, and my RPM is nothing to talk about"; "I have a video with 2 million views and never got paid because it doesn't last a minute." Some, however, applauded her achievement: "It's quite a lot; just think about how much you had to work before to earn that. Wishing you much luck and blessings."

This case illustrates how TikTok earnings rely not only on the number of views but also on factors like audience location and the platform's monetization policies.

Understanding TikTok Monetization

How does TikTok monetization work?

TikTok monetization involves earning money based on views and engagement metrics. Creators can earn through the TikTok Creator Fund, brand partnerships, and other methods, with earnings influenced by view location and video length.

Why does the RPM vary on TikTok?

RPM varies on TikTok due to factors such as the location of the viewers and the type of content. Views from certain regions may have different advertising values, affecting the RPM and overall earnings.

What can creators do to improve their RPM on TikTok?

Creators can improve their RPM by targeting audiences in regions with higher advertising rates, creating engaging content that encourages longer views, and understanding TikTok's monetization policies.

Is a high number of views always profitable on TikTok?

Not necessarily. While a high number of views can lead to increased earnings, profitability depends on factors like view location, video length, and whether the views qualify for monetization under TikTok's policies.
