The Chacal Reflects on El Taiger's Passing: "José Was Emotionally Shattered"

Saturday, December 7, 2024 by Bella Nunez

For numerous Cuban artists, including The Chacal, the passing of El Taiger was not only a profound loss but also a poignant reminder of life's true priorities. During a conversation with El Bafletazo, The Chacal recounted his final interactions with José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar and the shock he felt upon learning about the shooting.

"It was a disaster... I couldn't believe it. I thought he was pulling another one of his stunts because he was always up to something, joking around," the singer admitted.

The Chacal shared that he noticed something was wrong with José. "The second-to-last time I saw him was at a concert in Houston. We talked for almost an hour. José was emotionally shattered. He confided in me that he saw his mom coming to kiss him. I swear on my children," he recounted, visibly moved and tearful.

"He definitely needed help," the singer insisted, believing that with the right support around him, El Taiger might have had a different fate.

What struck The Chacal deeply and served as a lesson was the video capturing the moment Damián Valdez-Galloso shot El Taiger. "Thank God and cherish your loved ones. Tell everyone how much you love them because life is fleeting. That’s what I saw there. You saw the video; it was seconds, and then it was over. Of course, everyone hoped for a miracle, that he'd survive somehow, even if it meant a tough recovery, but no one wants anyone to die. Who would wish for that? But it happens," the reggaeton artist added.

In The Chacal's view, El Taiger's death should serve as a wake-up call: "Let's show a little more love, respect, and tolerance. Let's acknowledge each other. When we get home, let's kiss our children, be thankful for the roof over our heads, for the food we eat. Let's save a bit of money and stop focusing on trivialities and meaningless pursuits."
