An individual from Regla, Havana, now residing beneath a bridge in Miami, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the local Cuban community for their support and concern regarding his challenging circumstances. Through a video shared on TikTok by the account Conductadade (@conductadade), Orlando Hernández Luperón conveyed his situation and sent a hopeful message to those who have supported him from afar.
"I want to thank the people of Regla for their support and concern. I'm here. The only thing I lack are the papers," the visibly emotional man stated. He highlighted that his current situation on the streets stems from the absence of legal documents necessary to settle and improve his life in the United States.
In a previous post, the 61-year-old Hernández elaborated on the struggles he has faced since living on Miami's streets. "I haven't communicated with my family in over four years because I don't have a phone; everything gets stolen, everything is lost," he shared.
Surviving on the Streets of Miami
For the past two years, he has called the area beneath a bridge his home, humorously referring to it as his "shack" or "penthouse on the second floor." He explained that he avoids accumulating possessions because leaving them unattended risks losing everything: "Every time I'm not here, I have to carry everything with me, like those who haul bundles on carts. I can't handle that."
Originally from Regla in Havana, Hernández arrived in the United States in 2015 through Houston, Texas. However, he recounted being a victim of a massive scam affecting thousands, which led to his life on the streets. "I've been on the street for eight years. Since I arrived in this country, I haven't been able to secure legal work; everything has been 'under the table,' and what they want to pay is a pittance," he noted.
