Cuban Man Opens Fire on Two in Miami Over Car Photo Dispute

Wednesday, December 11, 2024 by Hannah Aguilar

A resident of Miami Lakes, identified as Danny Michel Casavilla García, has been jailed for allegedly shooting two men in a shopping center parking lot following a disagreement over photographing their vehicles. The 47-year-old Cuban is being held without bail, facing severe charges including two counts of attempted murder, discharging a deadly missile, and causing bodily harm with a firearm.

The incident took place early Monday morning around 3:00 am at the intersection of 155th Street and 77th Court in northwest Miami Lakes. According to the arrest report, Casavilla García was intoxicated and began taking photos and videos of the victims' cars.

The two men, named Cedeño Alvarado and Angulo Moreno, requested that he stay away from their vehicles. After a heated exchange, they left the scene but returned later to find Casavilla García still taking pictures. At that point, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on them.

Alvarado was standing and suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvis. Moreno, who was seated in his car, was unscathed, but a bullet hit the vehicle, shattering the driver's side window and causing other damage. Surveillance footage captured Casavilla García firing at a vehicle and the injured man attempting to escape while being pursued.

Both the victims and the shooter called the police. Upon their arrival, officers found a semiautomatic pistol in Casavilla García’s back pocket. After his arrest, he admitted to drinking and firing the gun multiple times, though he claimed to be unsure of the exact details of the incident. Nevertheless, he told the detective, "I am not afraid of anyone."

During his court appearance on Tuesday, his defense attorney argued that he acted in self-defense. "We have an opportunity to return to court to seek bail, and my partner and I will do so. He wasn't doing anything illegal when two men were on him. We will have more hearings in the future to present the facts to everyone," stated Scott Egleston, as reported by América TeVe.

Meanwhile, the injured man remains hospitalized, but his father told Local 10 that he is expected to survive.
