A Year Since the Disappearance of Karildi Caridad Marín in Havana

On Saturday, December 14, it marked a year since the disappearance of young Karildi Caridad Marín in Havana, and her family remains in the dark about her fate. Her brother, Yoandri Marín, expressed a heartfelt message on his Facebook page, once again appealing for solidarity to uncover her whereabouts. "It's incredibly difficult for the family not knowing what might have happened to her, a year filled with profound sadness. We only ask God to protect her from all harm and grant us the strength to endure the torment of living with such a devastating uncertainty," he wrote.

"We love you, my sister. Your parents, your siblings, and your little girl, you will forever be in our hearts and thoughts," he emphasized.

Karildi, a 25-year-old mother residing in Párraga, Arroyo Naranjo, vanished on December 14 of last year after leaving her home to attend a party. Throughout this period, her brother has shared messages along with her photo online to keep the case from fading into obscurity.

In October, marking 10 months since her disappearance, he posted a message questioning the authorities' response. "This has deeply disappointed me, to be honest. How does a 24-year-old woman, a mother of a baby, vanish in a country without borders?... I only pray to God to shield you from all human wickedness and to watch over you. Your family loves you and waits to hear from you... Time will tell, between heaven and earth, nothing remains hidden," he stressed.

Karildi's birthday passed on September 14 without her. "There is a family suffering because there is nothing more exhausting than having unanswered questions. Where could she be? What happened to her? If something did happen, who is responsible?" her brother pondered at the time.

In mid-August, Yoandri expressed hope of learning what occurred to his sister. "I pray to God to always protect you and for justice to be served by the authorities because, to this day, we have no news of you," he wrote.

The young man hopes for divine justice against whoever harmed Karildi, but he also demands accountability from the authorities. "Solve my sister's case, time is passing, and it's no longer just a day since her disappearance; it's almost six months. We need answers," he insisted in June.

Karildi Marín has a two-year-old daughter. On Mother's Day, her father dedicated a Facebook post with several photos of her with her daughter and one from when she was pregnant, shortly before giving birth. "The officers involved in the case are doing nothing, sitting on their asses. I'm sure if it were one of their daughters, she would have been found by now. This is Cuba, if you don't have a godfather, you don't get baptized," remarked an outraged Tomás Marín.

Yoandri has also criticized the authorities' inefficiency in the search for his sister. "Those who are supposed to ensure public safety are not doing their job properly (...). There are no traces of her, why, despite providing leads, has no suspect emerged?" he questioned in April.
