In an impressive display of boxing prowess, double Olympic champion Julio César La Cruz once again took center stage by defeating Colombian fighter Jeison Troncoso via technical knockout in the seventh round. The match, held in Nassau, Bahamas, saw La Cruz successfully defend his WBA International Gold Belt in the super cruiserweight division, months after failing to secure a medal at the Paris 2024 Games.

The bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, was dominated by the Cuban's exceptional technique. La Cruz expertly used his jab to maintain control and deliver punishing blows to his opponent. By the end of the seventh round, the referee intervened due to the noticeable swelling on Troncoso’s face. Troncoso entered the fight with an impressive record of 13 wins and only one loss.

"I felt in excellent shape, with powerful punches and quick movements. My lead hand was crucial for this victory," La Cruz shared with JIT after the fight. This win keeps his undefeated record intact in professional boxing, where he now boasts four victories.

This title defense comes a year after the five-time world champion claimed the WBA International title by defeating Nigerian Austine Nnamdi in Conakry, Guinea. Additionally, it marks his return to competition following his triumph at the International Boxing Association (IBA) professional world title in Havana last August.

La Cruz's next challenge is set for January 31 in Havana, where he will face Tajikistan’s Davlat Boltaev, a bronze medalist from Paris 2024.
