A woman originally from Granma, Cuba, who emigrated to the United States eight years ago, has found herself living on the streets of Miami for the past two years without any hope of improvement. María Isabel Fuentes, a seamstress and clothing designer, initially settled in Texas before moving to Miami to start her own business. Things were going well until the COVID-19 pandemic struck six months later, forcing her to close her business. Since then, she has struggled to regain her footing.
"I received government assistance, but it wasn't enough to restart the business. I ended up putting everything in storage and slept there for seven months. This situation led to nervous breakdowns and chronic pain," she explained in a video shared on TikTok by user Leonel Allegues Miami. "Gradually, my situation worsened, and now I'm in this predicament," she added.
María Isabel Fuentes reveals that she is isolated, with no family and few friends to turn to. She managed to secure a job driving for Uber, but had to leave it due to the side effects of her medications, which prevent her from driving.
