Cuban reggaeton artist Chocolate MC has delivered a scathing message to Italian businessman and producer Roberto Ferrante, owner of the record label Planet Record. He accused Ferrante of manipulating musical trends on YouTube and deceiving the new generation of Cuban reparto artists.
In a video shared on his Instagram stories, Chocolate MC directly addressed Ferrante, claiming that the view counts on the label's artists' YouTube tracks are not genuine. "Ferrante keeps trying to mess with the mindset of the new generation in my country, the reparto artists. You and I both know that trends can be bought. Look at what just happened to El Alfa; he had to pay a million dollars to YouTube for so much advertising and was getting inflated numbers," the singer stated.
Chocolate MC criticized how Planet Record's promoted songs reach implausible figures, comparing the phenomenon to renowned international artists: "It's impossible for Offset, Cardi B's ex-husband, to release a song and for you to get more views in a day than that guy, who is a superstar. Obviously, you're trending because you're pumping in more views than what are real, just like you did with El Alfa. You're fooling yourself."
The singer also suggested that Ferrante and Planet Record may be colluding with the Cuban government, whom he accused of influencing the careers of local artists to manipulate their popularity: "You're a leech. You came to the reparto to mess it up. You're a tool of the revolution. The Cuban government and you are managing the careers of Cuban reparto artists, making them seem bigger than they are."
Chocolate denounced that fake views and advertising campaigns are misleading the audience in Cuba, a country where, according to him, the population lacks a true "numbers culture" to interpret the authenticity of the figures. "No one here is a fool. A song is released on the same day and gets more views than Offset. Those views aren't real; they're making people in Cuba believe things that aren't true," he asserted.
The self-proclaimed King of Reparto concluded his message by lamenting the days when music became popular organically and without the need to "buy numbers." He claimed that no Planet Record song achieves success naturally, accusing Ferrante of inflating statistics with paid campaigns: "Ferrante, you spend money on that, on campaigns, and you have people confused. You're not going to fool anyone here. You're buying views that are putting you in the trends."
Chocolate MC's controversial statement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, where many reparto followers debate the legitimacy of the success of artists associated with Planet Record. Meanwhile, Roberto Ferrante has yet to respond to these accusations.
