Richard Alexandrr never imagined he would one day fluently use Cuban expressions and stand up for the Cuban community on social media. The "asere" remarks that initially annoyed him have now become an integral part of his life. In a heartwarming TikTok video, Richard shared his journey from skepticism to feeling like one of them.
"To begin with, I didn't like Cubans," Richard candidly admitted. Initially, he struggled to understand their confident and outgoing nature. "Many go around saying, 'asere, I'm the best in the universe,' and I would think, 'who the hell do you think you are?'" However, everything changed when he met several Cubans who impacted his life profoundly.
His first encounter was with six Cuban colleagues at work, where he began to appreciate their vibrant humor and zest for life. Then came a defining moment: an event in the Canary Islands where Cuban musicians showed him support, even though they barely knew each other. "They would tell me, 'bro, I follow you because my wife laughs with you, keep going, you're awesome,'" he recalled in a video shared on his profile @richard_alexandrr. It was here that he began to see the authenticity and joy that Cubans carry, despite their struggles.
"During those interactions, I realized the unique way they speak, make things up, dance, and pursue what they enjoy. These folks come from Cuba, having gone through the same or even worse hardships—no electricity, no water, no food. And that's when it hit me," he stated.
Today, the Venezuelan TikToker boldly claims that Cubans are among the top three communities that support him the most. He jokingly admits that although there's always one or two that he doesn't get along with, it doesn't diminish his affection for them. "If after everything I've shared I don't love the Cuban community, I'd be a hypocrite. I love and adore them," he declared, emphasizing his genuine fondness.
The video has gone viral, filling the comments section with gratitude and laughter from Cubans, who didn't hold back. "Even among ourselves, we don't always get along, but when someone mentions Díaz-Canel, we all unite," and "You're more Cuban than Venezuelan now" are some of the standout messages. Others, like "Relax, I annoy myself all the time" and "You talk fast and loud now, you're Cuban," highlight the islanders' characteristic humor.
Richard has not only gained thousands of followers but also the affection of a community that, as he puts it, "may be off-putting at first but eventually wins you over." And indeed, he has fallen for the "asere, you know it."
