Animal advocate Susana Bisbe shared heartfelt moments on social media of her journey to the iconic San Lázaro Sanctuary in El Rincón, Havana, accompanied by Rachy, a cat she rescued a month earlier on November 17, after a tragic accident. The images posted on her Facebook profile reveal not only Rachy's remarkable recovery but also their participation in the traditional pilgrimage, a symbolic event for many San Lázaro devotees.

The tale of this cat's rescue highlights the unwavering dedication of Cuban animal protectors, who prioritize their love for animals despite the challenging conditions affecting pets, especially dogs and cats, in the nation. Bisbe recounted the dramatic rescue of Rachy on social media, describing her critical condition upon discovery on November 17 on Havana's streets.

In a post filled with vivid details and emotions, she described finding Rachy severely neglected, suffering from severe infections and multiple injuries that threatened her life. The cat was found at the intersection of 51st and 84th streets, where she had been vulnerable for several days, likely due to being hit by a vehicle.

"Rachy is in a grave state. She has multiple traumas, infections throughout her body, a swollen face, injuries in her mouth and tongue, and bleeding from her vulva," Bisbe wrote, explaining that Rachy received immediate care at the Vetpro clinic, where she was given fluids and medical treatment, though her prognosis was uncertain.

Bisbe also detailed the circumstances that led to the rescue. Although Rachy had been seen before, no one had stopped to assist until Bisbe intervened, prompted by concerned neighbors, including children who were worried about the cat. She recounted the risks she took to transport Rachy, navigating the streets of Marianao urgently, even facing a scare on her motorcycle to ensure timely help.

"When she received fluids, she clutched my finger with her paw. She's fighting to survive," Bisbe shared in a poignant testimony that underscores Rachy's fragility and determination to live. Despite the challenges, Bisbe took on the initial costs of 2,320 pesos for emergency treatment, expressing gratitude to four individuals who financially supported her at that time.

In a subsequent update, Bisbe shared positive news about Rachy's recovery. "Today, I went to the Happier veterinary clinic near my home for the last dose of oxytetracycline and vitamins. She will undergo surgery on her eyes tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Vetpro clinic," she detailed, noting Rachy's improved condition.

The cat was reportedly more active and able to walk, a significant improvement from her critical state at rescue. However, Bisbe noted that Rachy still couldn't eat on her own or show interest in food: "I continue to feed her with a syringe, using puree. I hope she improves after the surgery," she expressed, conveying hope for Rachy's ongoing recovery.
