The Camagüey Electric Company recently posted a message on social media addressing the community, expressing frustration over the frequent calls to the emergency electricity number regarding blackouts. The company stressed that the number 188 88 is available in all provinces to handle issues such as downed cables, tripped transformers, homes without power, or voltage fluctuations.

"However, when our clients call to engage in lengthy and sometimes unjustly offensive discussions about the blackout, they are clogging the phone lines, making it impossible for others trying to reach our operators," the company stated.

The company emphasized that the operators cannot resolve these issues, stating, "The blackout is a state of opinion, not an emergency requiring urgent communication and subsequent resolution by our linemen."

They urged users to stay informed through the official Telegram channel, which provides updates 24/7 on power outages, cleared paths, and primary circuit issues. The company stressed the importance of keeping the 188 88 lines free for genuine emergencies. "When power generation deficits arise and exceed manageable limits, explanations and circuit rotations become impossible. However, emergencies reported through this number are always addressed," the statement reiterated.

Understanding the Camagüey Blackout Situation

What is the purpose of the 188 88 number?

The 188 88 number is designated for handling specific electrical issues such as downed cables, homes without power, or voltage anomalies, not for discussing blackouts.

How can residents stay informed about blackouts?

Residents are encouraged to use the official Telegram channel that provides continuous information on power outages and related issues.

Why are blackouts considered a "state of opinion"?

The company describes blackouts as a "state of opinion" because they do not constitute an emergency that requires immediate technical intervention.
