Mike Hammer, the new chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, delivered a heartfelt Christmas message to families across the island, emphasizing the embassy's dedication to building "a dignified future for Cubans."

In a video shared by the embassy on its digital platforms, Hammer expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received upon his arrival. "As we close out this challenging year, I want to thank you for the warm welcome," he shared.

Hammer highlighted the embassy’s commitment to strengthening ties between the American and Cuban people, appreciating the warmth and hospitality of the island's inhabitants. He underscored the importance of forging connections with individuals and even invoked a hopeful quote from José Martí, stating, "Man loves liberty."

“Despite significant challenges, we wish you a Merry Christmas and hope your dreams come true in 2025,” Hammer conveyed.

Stepping into his role recently, Hammer replaced Benjamin G. Ziff and brings over 35 years of diplomatic experience, having served in pivotal roles such as Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
