A significant weather change is on the horizon as the first cold front of 2025, currently positioned over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, is expected to reach the northern coast of western Cuba early Thursday, January 2nd. This meteorological event is anticipated to bring isolated showers, a cooler and drier air mass, and a noticeable drop in temperatures.

In a social media update, meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez noted that before the cold front's arrival, scattered showers are likely, primarily affecting the northern coastline of the western region. As the front progresses slowly across Cuban territory, it will gradually dissipate over its southern part, leaving behind a typical wintery atmosphere.

By Friday, high-pressure systems of continental origin will start influencing the western region of the country, ushering in significantly cooler and drier air. Daytime highs are forecasted to range between 22 and 25°C, though slightly warmer in the southeastern part. Meanwhile, nighttime lows could drop to between 13 and 16°C in the interior areas of the west and center, with even lower temperatures possible in some specific spots.

Recently, Cuba experienced a particularly cold dawn, with temperatures plummeting below 10°C in various locations nationwide. Official data indicates the lowest temperature was recorded at the Indio Hatuey meteorological station in Matanzas, where the thermometer dipped to 6.6°C, marking the coldest point of the day, as reported by the state-run Radio Progreso on their official Facebook page.
