Florida Woman Shocked by Changes at Lehigh Supermarket: "This Wasn't Like Miami"

A Cuban woman, who has been residing in Lehigh, Florida since 2005, recently shared her unexpected experience at a local supermarket. Known as @browsbyzahily on TikTok, she expressed her astonishment at discovering the new expectation of bagging her own groceries after checkout—an experience she had never encountered during her years living in the area.

In her TikTok video, she explained, "I just left the supermarket here in Lehigh, where I live, and I was honestly shocked to find out that after I made my purchase, I had to bag my own groceries. Never in my life had I seen this here. There were always people who packed the food for you."

She recounted that while the cashier scanned her items, they were left to the side unbagged, which made her realize she had to handle it herself. "Don't get me wrong, it's not that I mind bagging my things, but this wasn't like Miami, where it's common. Honestly, I was surprised there was no one assigned to bag. Things are expensive, and on top of that, I have to bag my own purchases," she added.

The video sparked a variety of reactions on TikTok. Some users shared their own experiences, noting that in Miami, store employees typically handle the bagging. Here are some of the responses:

"I've recently moved here and noticed that every time I go to Fresco, I have to bag my own groceries. However, in Miami, I never did. It's not that it's a burden, but here they don't do it for you."

"It's not a big deal. When the cashier is scanning the items, I start bagging until she's done. We do it together."

"In Miami, the cashiers always bag the items and you help if you want to."

"I've been in Miami for 24 years and have never had to bag my groceries unless I chose to."
