Following a tragic traffic incident on January 2 near Santa Cruz del Sur in Camagüey province, more than 20 children are still undergoing recovery. The accident involved a passenger truck that veered off the road, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to 63 others, including many children and teenagers. Radio Santa Cruz reported on Facebook, sharing a video of the injured being treated in various local hospitals.

The injured children were transported to Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital, where they are receiving specialized medical care, according to the official news agency Prensa Latina. Rodolfo Domínguez, the director of Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital, stated that both adults and minors are recovering from fractures and contusions, with no major surgeries required at this time.

"Some patients are under observation due to minor thoracic and abdominal traumas, but their lives are not at risk," he added.

The accident happened near kilometer 71 on the road linking Camagüey to Santa Cruz del Sur, when the passenger truck overturned in the El Francés area. The collision led to the death of Ramón Chávez, a resident of Jacinto González, and left other passengers with severe injuries. Multiple ambulances and emergency personnel from nearby hospitals were dispatched to attend to the more than 60 injured individuals.

Local and health authorities have been closely monitoring the situation, and there has been significant community support through blood donations to aid the patients. The Cándido González Hospital has raised concerns due to resource constraints, yet officials have managed to ensure medical care for those affected, as reported by the media outlet.
