Cuban Immigrant Sparks Online Debate with Viral Video About Living Comfortably in Mexico

Saturday, January 4, 2025 by Madison Pena

A Cuban immigrant claims he lived comfortably in Mexico on 2,000 pesos a week, covering rent, purchasing beef, chicken, bananas, and even indulging in some luxuries. "I earned 2,000 pesos weekly, totaling 8,000 a month. From that, I paid 1,500 pesos monthly for rent and spent between 300 and 500 pesos weekly on food. With that, I bought everything: chicken, steak, beef, ground meat, bananas... Everything for me and my wife. It was amazing, folks," he explained.

The video was posted by TikTok user @es_el_mexicano_wey_07, a Cuban who resided in Mexico before moving to the United States. His message, particularly directed at immigrants, aims to show that "with money, you can live" in Mexico, provided one works and manages finances wisely.

The testimony, which has gained over 1.4 million views and 68,500 likes, has ignited discussions online. Many users agreed with his experience, while others doubted it. "I've been living in Mexico for three years, and I'm not leaving. Mexico is the real deal," commented a fellow Cuban. Meanwhile, a Mexican user expressed, "I love Cubans; they are wonderful people. You're always welcome in my country."

Though several people praised his optimistic message, some criticized him, questioning his figures. "Where did you rent for 1,500 pesos? I pay 5,000 just for rent," one person remarked. Another stated, "Spending 300 or 500 pesos weekly on food... That's impossible." Some also pointed out the rising prices in Mexico, making it tougher to achieve the stability he describes.

However, other users supported his words, emphasizing that hard work is key. Comments like "In Mexico, if you enjoy working, you can live well," "It's about managing your finances," and "If you work hard, you live well, brother," were among the most common.

Beyond the opinions, the video has sparked an intriguing conversation about living possibilities in Mexico, especially for immigrants. His conclusion is straightforward: "Anything is possible, folks, as long as you work and manage your resources."
