Cuba is gearing up for a particularly cold week, as early morning chills and brisk days are predicted to bring some of the lowest temperatures of the season. This weather pattern is being driven by the arrival of a new cold front and a mass of cold air set to blanket the entire nation.
Meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez shared on Facebook this Sunday that a frontal system will reach western Cuba by early Tuesday, likely causing scattered showers before dissipating over the southern part. Following this, a sharp drop in temperatures is expected, with the coldest days anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Expect extremely cold mornings; we might record the lowest temperatures seen so far this winter," emphasized Ruisánchez, noting that wearing warm clothing will be essential throughout the week. He promised to provide more detailed temperature forecasts in the coming days but assured that Cubans will definitely feel the winter's bite.
This Sunday morning was notably chilly across various Cuban regions, with temperatures plunging below 10°C in some areas. Meteorologist Bryam Pérez Valdés reported in the Facebook group “Tiempo Meteorológico en Cuba” that the Indio Hatuey station in Matanzas recorded a morning temperature of 9.0°C.
Several other locations experienced significant temperature drops: Santo Domingo in Villa Clara hit 11.0°C, Bainoa in Mayabeque recorded 11.2°C, and Aguada de Pasajeros in Cienfuegos noted 11.4°C. In Artemisa, Bauta saw a low of 11.8°C, while Güines in Mayabeque reached 12.2°C.
In Matanzas, Jovellanos recorded 13.0°C, and Playa Girón hit 13.1°C. Central regions like El Yabú in Villa Clara and Camilo Cienfuegos in Ciego de Ávila reported 12.9°C. Chilly conditions also affected Pinar del Río City and El Jíbaro in Sancti Spíritus, both reaching 13.5°C, while Santa Lucía in Pinar del Río saw 13.8°C. Júcaro in Ciego de Ávila reported a minimum of 14.0°C, ranking among the higher low temperatures for the day.
This remarkable temperature drop underscores the strength of the cold front impacting the region, resulting in frosty mornings across much of Cuba. The first cold front of 2025 hit Cuba last Thursday, bringing isolated showers and dropping temperatures to lows around 13°C in interior areas of the country.
