New information has emerged about the fierce blaze that erupted on Sunday morning in a shared garage in the Manuelita neighborhood of Santa Clara, following the explosion of an electric scooter. According to the state journalist Henry Omar Pérez on Facebook, the fire, categorized as level 4, was triggered by a scooter that had been plugged in overnight. Apparently, it was unplugged in the morning without being removed, leading to the explosion.

"The rapid spread of the fire is attributed to strong southern winds and the high concentration of combustible materials stored in the garage, including vehicles, motorcycles, tires, mattresses, and tools," Pérez reported.

Fortunately, the incident resulted in no casualties or injuries, but the damage was extensive. At least four vehicles, including a Lada and two classic American cars known as almendrones, were completely destroyed alongside several motorcycles and a repair workshop equipped with modern tools.

Residents in the vicinity expressed their concern over how quickly the flames spread. The fire was extinguished by the combined efforts of the Ministry of the Interior and the Santa Clara Fire Department, with assistance from local technicians.

Authorities are currently investigating the precise causes and assessing the full extent of the damage. This incident highlights the inherent risks of storing electric vehicles in enclosed spaces and underscores the need for stricter safety measures. Regular technical inspections and the implementation of clear protocols to prevent fires are essential.
