The Miami International Airport (MIA) set a new milestone as it kicked off the year 2025, with over 200,000 travelers passing through its facilities in a single day. This figure marked an all-time high for daily air traffic, as announced by MIA on its official social media account on X. "We're celebrating an unprecedented start to 2025! Last Saturday, we set records with over 200,000 passengers, making it the busiest day in MIA's history. Thank you for making us part of your journey," stated the airport in its post.

According to Telemundo 51, MIA reached an exact record of 201,180 travelers, a long-anticipated achievement realized amid the implementation of a $9 billion modernization program. "Miami-Dade aviation authorities had projected a flow of 3,000,000 passengers during the holiday period, from December 21 to January 6; however, Saturday's numbers far exceeded the estimated daily average of 165,000 during the New Year's holiday season," noted the television station.

Back in November 2021, the airport terminal recorded another significant milestone with 164,000 passengers in a single day, which was the most active travel day in its history up until then.

MIA anticipated welcoming 1,900,000 travelers during Thanksgiving, averaging 157,000 daily passengers, which represented a 2% increase compared to the previous year's record numbers. Thousands of passengers moved through the airport, some heading home and others arriving in South Florida to enjoy family gatherings around the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Despite the bustling check-in and security areas, as reported by Telemundo 51, airport authorities had expected a higher passenger flow on November 30 and December 1, considered peak dates of the season.
