A local initiative in Ciego de Ávila, known as La Finquita, issued a public warning this Tuesday after discovering counterfeit ice cream being sold under their brand name. The project revealed that unscrupulous individuals are purchasing lower-quality and cheaper ice creams, repackaging them in La Finquita containers with fake labels, and primarily selling them via social media platforms.
The team at La Finquita made this allegation through a Facebook post, stressing that they have no connection with these repackaged products. They also reminded consumers that they only guarantee the quality of products bought at their official sales locations. These are situated at Carretera Central kilometer 459 in the Almacenes La Universal opposite the Círculo Social, on Carretera Central Chicho Valdés number 26 between Marcial Gómez and Abraham Delgado, which is the UPEC headquarters, and at the intersection of Carretera Central and Simón Reyes at the former PEKÍN location.
In addition, La Finquita emphasized that they distribute their ice creams exclusively in municipalities such as Venezuela, Majagua, Florencia, Chambas, and Primero de Enero, all within the province of Ciego de Ávila. The project also reiterated its commitment to the community, vowing to continue delivering quality products and strengthening its position as a prominent local development initiative in Ciego de Ávila.
This situation underscores the worsening economic crisis in Cuba, where individuals resort to various "inventions" to make quick money. For instance, last December, two young Cuban women fell victim to the classic "ring scam" in a park in Guantánamo, deceived by two strangers who convinced them to trade their chains for a supposed 14-karat gold ring. The women, cousins aged 20 and 23, were shopping downtown when approached by the scammers. They later discovered the ring was merely made of gold-colored metal.
In a separate incident in October, a man was detained by residents in the heart of Santiago de Cuba after being accused of an alleged scam, as shared on social media. The event took place on Reloj Street, between San Francisco and San Gerónimo, where locals apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada reported the incident, sharing a video depicting police officers handcuffing the suspect.
