In early December, security cameras captured the theft of a package from the doorstep of a South Miami residence, leading to the arrest of a Cuban man and woman in Miami-Dade County. The suspects, identified as Leydis Vega, 30, and Dariel Massip, 31, both from Hialeah, are facing several charges, as reported by local media.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 7, when Vega was caught on surveillance footage stealing a package from the front door of a home on the 6900 block of Southwest 63rd Avenue in South Miami, according to police reports. The theft prompted Sergeant Fernando Bosch, the spokesperson for the South Miami Police Department, to announce that a man and a woman were suspected: "The man stays in the car (a black Ford Mustang) while the woman steals the package. We believe other neighborhoods might also have fallen victim to this duo."

As the investigation unfolded, the surveillance video was broadcasted by media outlets, which helped someone contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers hotline, enabling the police to identify and locate the woman. On Monday morning, Vega voluntarily turned herself in at the police department and cooperated fully with the authorities.

Bosch shared with Telemundo 51 that the accused admitted to her crimes and pointed out some of the residences where they allegedly took place. She confessed to having a drug addiction and stated that Massip persuaded her to commit the thefts in exchange for substances.

Now held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the Cuban woman appeared before the bail court on Tuesday, facing charges of petty theft and burglary of an occupied dwelling. Meanwhile, Massip remains in custody at the Metrowest Detention Center on several charges, including criminal solicitation, awaiting his court appearance. Despite being granted a $2,500 bond related to the incident, he is detained without bail due to pending court orders, according to Local 10 News.

Police indicate that there may be additional victims of the thefts carried out by the pair, who could face further charges.
