An individual has been apprehended in the José Martí District of Santiago de Cuba, suspected of being involved in a recent sexual assault in the area. The arrest took place on Tuesday, as reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook, based on accounts from local residents and eyewitnesses.

A source, who requested to remain anonymous, disclosed that the alleged perpetrator committed the crime last Friday around 11:00 p.m. According to the account, the victim, a 21-year-old young woman of Christian faith, was walking towards the well-known Barca de Oro area when the suspect intercepted her with a machete, threatening to kill her if she screamed.

The assailant then reportedly forced her to move to the backside of the softball field in the area known as "El J," where the attack took place. A video shared by Mayeta depicted the suspect in handcuffs under police custody, surrounded by onlookers at the scene.

In a subsequent post, the suspect was identified as Santiago V., also known as "Chago." He is a resident of the Agüero neighborhood and was recently released from prison. "I’ve been told he was on the run for a theft at the Casa de la Cultura in San Pedrito, and unfortunately, due to the police's inadequate response, this crime against a young Christian woman occurred," Mayeta Labrada stated.
