Last night marked one of the coldest moments of the year so far for western and central regions of Cuba, as temperatures dipped close to 50°F. While most thermometers registered between 55°F and 61°F, two areas of the island experienced even chillier conditions.
The Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (Insmet) reported that the coldest spot was Indio Hatuey in Matanzas Province, where the temperature hit a low of 51.1°F. Close behind was Santo Domingo in Villa Clara, recording 51.6°F.

Insmet also noted that a new cold front is advancing through the Gulf of Mexico. However, according to the NOAA surface map for Sunday, January 12, this frontal system is not expected to reach Cuba. In contrast, Florida is anticipated to experience a further drop in temperatures once this cold front passes.
For Cuba, temperatures are expected to rise starting this Saturday. Nonetheless, another dip is predicted around January 16 due to the possible influence of a new mass of cold, dry, and stable air.
