Alexander Delgado Shares Thoughts on El Micha's Stance on Cuba and His Position in Miami's Exile

Sunday, January 12, 2025 by Abigail Marquez

El Micha has faced significant backlash in Miami due to his views on Cuba and his choice to continue performing on the island, despite criticism from the Cuban exile community. During a recent interview with Tony Dandrades at his new restaurant, Lo D’ Alex, Alexander Delgado of Gente de Zona expressed his perspective on the matter. "I'm quite aware of El Micha's position," Alexander stated.

"I can answer because I experienced it myself. I believe no one has the right to force anyone to think a certain way; that's why we live in freedom, to hold different opinions," Alexander explained. "What happened to El Micha could have happened to many others. Many Cuban artists don't truly understand what exile means, just as I didn't when I first arrived and faced similar attacks. I inadvertently disrespected the exile community and was criticized by those who claim to represent it, though they don't represent my views," he recalled.

Alexander emphasized his friendship with El Micha, asserting, "El Micha is my friend and will remain my friend for life. I won't engage in contradictions or conflicts with him over differing opinions. We will always respect each other's positions from our respective corners."

In the interview, Alexander empathized with El Micha, linking his reactions to the criticisms he has endured. "I was attacked too, they hurt me as well, and I didn't feel good about it. I'm not in favor of such disrespect towards a human being," he stated.

However, Alexander made it clear where he and Gente de Zona stand regarding Cuba: "I have no plans to return for now. Until Cuba is free, I won't go back. Until the situation changes, until my country stops experiencing such hardships and political prisoners are no longer abused, I don't believe the government deserves Gente de Zona's presence. I feel for the people who are not at fault," he concluded.
