The authorities in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, recently apprehended two individuals found with 1,053 bottles of homemade yogurt in their possession, stored in two vehicles parked along the road in the town of Torriente. The pro-government Facebook page "Con Todos la Victoria," which is aligned with the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), revealed that the individuals involved have been identified as Vladimir Prieto Luzbet and Efraín Morejón Pompa. The latter has a criminal record for assault and hoarding, charges he will now face again in court, the report emphasized.

To produce such a large amount of yogurt, at least 1,500 liters of milk would have been required. This quantity of milk, according to the report, could potentially disrupt the supply meant for children, highlighting the seriousness of the offense. However, "Con Todos la Victoria" did not disclose the source of the milk, suggesting that such a considerable amount likely involves more individuals, possibly including officials.

The page stressed the importance of "zero tolerance" towards crime, illegal activities, and social misconduct, claiming that MININT is combating these issues. This stance creates the misleading impression that the regime is addressing the core problems affecting the Cuban populace.

In a separate instance of the so-called "fight against crime," Cuban police recently detained a man transporting over 30 sacks of semi-clean coffee on a tractor during an operation in Arroyo Rico, II Frente municipality, Santiago de Cuba. The regime-affiliated Facebook page "Héroes del Moncada" indicated that the coffee was intended for the black market, a practice that has been on the rise in recent years.

Just days ago, another incident occurred in Holguín where a couple was arrested after authorities discovered they were carrying drugs and a substantial amount of cash. Details of this incident were shared via the pro-government page "Cazador-Cazado" on Facebook, outlining the events in a detailed post.

Why is the black market for coffee thriving in Cuba?

The black market for coffee in Cuba continues to grow due to economic hardships and scarcity of goods, pushing many to seek alternative ways to buy and sell products outside the state-controlled market.
