A devastating fire on Tuesday left a father and his son injured in the Las Cañas neighborhood of Artemisa. Both sustained minor burns as the inferno devoured their family home, according to local news outlet Artemisa Diario.
The blaze broke out in the afternoon while Juan Miguel Sáez, a local resident, was working on mechanical tasks in his backyard. Witnesses reported that the fire was ignited by a spark from an improvised heater that came into contact with fuel.
Despite Juan Miguel's desperate attempts to extinguish the flames, the smoke and intense heat resulted in minor facial burns for both him and his son, who was trying to assist his father. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any fatalities.
The Fire's Aftermath
The fire severely damaged two homes located on 14th Street between 3rd and 5th in Las Cañas. The Artemisa Fire Department was swiftly dispatched upon receiving the emergency call. Lieutenant Colonel Yaser Sánchez Seguí, the provincial fire chief, stated that the first responders arrived to find the Sáez family home completely engulfed, with flames threatening the neighboring house.
"Our primary objective was to prevent the blaze from spreading further by attacking it from the inside. Eventually, we managed to put out the fire," Sánchez Seguí explained.
Recovery and Support Efforts
Deysi Milián Castillo, the director of housing in Artemisa, announced that assessments will be conducted as soon as access to the affected properties is possible. "We will provide the necessary materials for rebuilding the home and coordinate support from a brigade, although it seems the family is also receiving help from close friends and relatives," remarked Milián Castillo.
According to the regime, the municipality's Social Assistance will urgently arrange the delivery of two mattresses for the affected family, who are reportedly receiving immediate care and support from the authorities.
