Monday, February 3, 2025 by Daniel Vasquez

A pair of elderly Cubans were left utterly astonished upon discovering a corner store in Mexico, conveniently located near their home, stocked with all the essentials for daily living. The heartwarming moment was captured on TikTok by Michel Crónicas (@michelcronicas), a Cuban YouTuber residing in Mexico, who often shares experiences about life there with his parents.

"I brought Don Manolo and my mom to a little store, what we call in Mexico, the corner store," Michel said in the video. "We came for eggs, and here we are with fruits, sugar. What do you think of the corner store?" he asked his audience.

"It's a wonder, just like everything in Mexico. Mexico is amazing, we love it, so much abundance," remarked the woman, clearly in awe. The couple was taken aback by the variety of products available when they inquired with the shopkeeper.

"You know, in Cuba, we have nothing, unfortunately. Let's see if things improve a bit by 2025," she added, highlighting the stark contrast with their homeland.

Back at home, they joyfully displayed their purchases, still in disbelief that such a small place could meet their basic needs. The comparisons with Cuba's reality and its pervasive shortages were inevitable throughout their conversation.

In another video, Michel Crónicas expressed feeling wealthy in Mexico simply because he never lacked food, electricity, or water. He also shared a touching moment when his father was moved to tears upon entering a Mexican supermarket, overwhelmed by the sheer quantity and variety of goods.
