Cuban Influencer Shares Mistakes She Won't Repeat in the U.S.: "Don't Call Me for That"

The well-known Cuban TikToker, Estrellita La Calderin (@estrellitalacalderin), recently released a video where she outlines the blunders she vows to avoid while living in the United States. Her insights offer specific advice particularly targeted at Cubans who have just arrived in Miami.

One of the first points she highlights is the reluctance to open her home to acquaintances or relatives who are new to the country. "I don't want anyone in my house. Don't call me about a neighbor, a relative, or a family to stay at my place for a while... No, no, no, don't count on me for that in this country," she firmly stated.

Estrellita, who has amassed over 300,000 followers on Instagram, is celebrated for sharing her immigrant journey in the United States on social media. In her video, she emphasizes how inviting newcomers into her home disrupts her peace and privacy. "Having your independence is highly valued here. Achieving that independence, your own corner, your peace, your sanctuary... That's the American dream (...) When you bring someone into your home, your privacy is shattered. Your husband can no longer walk around shirtless, and discussions are limited."

Another mistake she plans to avoid is lending her credit or money to others. "You just don't do that with anyone. I don't lend money. Because when you need it back and ask for it, they get upset with you. If you want someone to fight with you, lend them money. No, that's a firm no," she declared unambiguously.

She also refuses to lend her car: "That's another mistake, never again. If your car broke down, please see a mechanic and solve your issue, but don't ask for mine."

Regarding social gatherings, the influencer was straightforward: "If you're celebrating your birthday at a restaurant where I have to come, bring a gift, and pay the bill too, don't invite me. Just don't."

Finally, she touched on job referrals, stating she won't vouch for anyone anymore. "People don't want to work. You explain the job, put in a good word with the supervisor, and then they say: 'That's too much, I don't know how you did it.' And they make you look bad. No recommendations for anyone—not family, not a partner, not a friend."

The video has sparked discussion among her followers, many of whom shared their own experiences and mistakes they also refuse to repeat in the United States.
