A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday in Santiago de Cuba when a motorcycle collided with an elderly man crossing the street. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported that the incident took place on the bustling Patria Avenue in the city center. Several bystanders rushed to assist the man, helping him off the ground. A local resident mentioned that the man was taken to the hospital unconscious.

"The gentleman is the grandfather of a friend of my daughter. He often sneaks out of the house despite being told not to. I pray for his swift recovery," shared Yaima Vargas in the post.

Details regarding the cause of the accident remain unclear. Some online commenters suggested the elderly man shouldn't have been crossing at that part of the avenue. However, a nurse claimed that the motorcyclist ran a red light.

Many remarked that people, overwhelmed by daily struggles, often walk the streets distracted, inadvertently causing mishaps. This situation is exacerbated for the elderly, who, due to age, may have diminished abilities. Conversely, others pointed out that motorcycles frequently speed, contributing to numerous accidents throughout the country.
