Monday, February 24, 2025 by Elizabeth Alvarado

Cuban singer Haydée Milanés has announced that she will release a new song on February 28. The track, recorded with rapper Bian Oscar Rodríguez, also known as El B, a former member of Los Aldeanos, is titled "Duele" and is described as an anthem for Cuba's freedom. In an interview with Telemundo 51, journalist Daisy Ballmajó discussed the song with Milanés, who explained, "It speaks of the Cuban people's pain. It speaks of a mother's pain. It speaks of the pain we feel in exile, the separation, all the things we've suffered over the years."

Through her Instagram account, the daughter of Pablo Milanés shared that recording this song with El B was "something very special and dear." She added, "To complete the joy, we wrote this song with the great producer and brother Yadam."

In an exclusive interview with Radio Televisión Martí, Milanés described the collaboration as a "dream," saying, "I think it's something very beautiful, something that happened very naturally, truly magical." For Haydée, the song transcends the theme of Cuba's freedom, presenting itself as a love song "meant to make Cubans fall in love with the cause of freedom."

The musicians aim to raise awareness among Cubans about their individual responsibility towards their freedom and that of the entire nation. Directed by Alejandro Gutiérrez, Haydée's husband, the music video seeks to capture "the longing of a country yearning for real change," as described by the artist herself.

A vocal advocate for her people's freedom, Haydée has repeatedly spoken out against the oppressive regime. Following the freezing of federal funds that endangered several independent media outlets, Milanés expressed her support for these organizations, praising their vital role in combating the censorship prevalent on the island. In October 2024, she also delivered a poignant message about Cuba's dire situation, condemning the communist regime's ineffectiveness and indifference, which she argues seeks to maintain absolute power at the expense of the island's suffering populace.
