Young Cuban Faces Hardships in the U.S.: "I Need Help"

Monday, February 24, 2025 by Daniel Vasquez

A young Cuban migrant, whose identity remains confidential, arrived in the United States three years ago, hoping for a brighter future. However, his journey has been fraught with challenges. After spending a year in prison, he has since been living on the streets, grappling with drug addiction as a constant companion.

His story was highlighted on TikTok by user Conducta, known for sharing the stories of homeless individuals and offering them assistance. The young man, who previously resided in Alamar, East Havana, shared that he will turn 31 on February 25.

"Take me with you and help me... I need everything: food, documents," he pleaded with Conducta. While his testimony doesn’t specify the circumstances leading to his arrest or how he became involved with drugs, it underscores the precarious situation many migrants find themselves in.

The comments section sparked a range of reactions to his story. One user remarked, "He mentioned everything he needs except a job. Some paths can't be straightened." In contrast, another defended the young man, saying, "I see so many people judging without walking in his shoes, and not one willing to help. We know where we are today, but not where we'll be tomorrow."

Another supporter added, "Those who criticize don't really understand what he's been through or why he ended up where he is. He does deserve help; he's a good person." In the comments, a user identifying as the young man's mother expressed a desire to contact him.

Recently, Conducta facilitated a heartwarming reunion for a young Cuban woman struggling with addiction in Miami. After five years without contact, her family saw videos of her online and reached out. Conducta shared, "After five years missing, her family saw her in the videos and contacted us. Today, we found her, and now the real change begins," on their social media accounts.
