The cost of gasoline in Florida has once again become unpredictable, with prices rising by 12 cents last week only to fall by 8 cents over the weekend. This past Monday, however, drivers were met with an average state price of $3.08 per gallon, which is 6 cents higher than the previous week, 10 cents lower than the previous month, and 24 cents less than this time last year, according to a report by CBS News.

Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group in the southern state, highlighted that "gas prices in Florida continue to fluctuate, yet have remained within the same 25-cent range since early September." He indicated that despite this apparent stability, unseen in drivers' wallets, "seasonal factors could put upward pressure on pump prices in the coming months."

Jenkins further explained that "the spring refinery maintenance season typically peaks in late February and March. This, coupled with increased fuel demand due to spring travel and the switch to summer gasoline, generally contributes to higher prices in the spring. To put it in perspective, last year, gasoline prices rose by 30 cents from late February to late March."

Meanwhile, the national average price for gasoline stood at $3.14 per gallon on Monday.

In major Florida cities, gas prices varied considerably, as reported by CBS News: Miami-Dade had an average price of $3.07 per gallon, compared to $3.04 a week earlier. A year ago, the average price was $3.34 per gallon. In Broward, fuel was slightly higher at $3.08 per gallon, up from $3.03 last week. Last year, the average was $3.38 per gallon.

Additionally, the most expensive places to purchase gasoline in the state are the areas of West Palm Beach-Boca Raton and Naples, while it's more affordable in Panama City ($2.83 per gallon), Pensacola ($2.85 per gallon), and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.85 per gallon), as per AAA.

According to Florida Politics, Florida's fuel prices are among the highest in the nation, yet still average significantly lower per gallon compared to states like California ($4.84), Hawaii ($4.55), and Washington ($4.15). Nevertheless, they are notably higher than in states such as Mississippi ($2.67), Texas ($2.73), and Louisiana ($2.74), among others.
