On Thursday, the White House addressed growing curiosity and concerns regarding the bruises seen on President Donald Trump's hands. Last year, Trump was observed with discolorations or redness on his right hand on at least two occasions, in August and November. A prominent bruise on the back of his hand was noticeable on Monday during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Washington.

Social media users shared images and speculated that these marks might indicate a health issue. At 78, Trump is the oldest U.S. president to assume office. However, the White House quickly dismissed these rumors, citing that the marks result from Trump's frequent handshaking, a common gesture of greeting.

"President Trump is a man of the people. His unwavering commitment is evident every day," stated Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary. "The bruises on his hand are simply from his continual handshaking throughout the day, every day," she added.

The Republican leader himself explained that the bruises on his right hand were due to "shaking hands with thousands of people," as he mentioned to Time magazine in December 2024 when he was named Person of the Year. In a December interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press," Trump stated that his medical reports were "very good, very solid" and expressed his willingness to make them public. "I would, and I think anyone should," he declared. However, he has not yet followed through on this promise.
