Missing Cuban in Morón: Authorities Suspect Foul Play

José Alberto Campo Cruz, a 65-year-old Cuban missing since January 3 in Morón, Ciego de Ávila province, is feared to have been murdered. Campo Cruz, known for his roles as a Geography teacher, a Party secretary, a delegate for over 40 years, and a judge, was reported missing by his daughter via social media.

Initial investigations indicate that authorities are no longer searching for him alive. Instead, their focus has shifted to finding his remains after revelations of a possible homicide, as disclosed by activist Irma Broek on social media, citing insider information.

Reports suggest that a suspect confessed to involvement in the crime, implicating two accomplices. According to the alleged perpetrator, the victim was returning from a school event when invited for a drink at the suspect's home. A heated argument over a check issue escalated, resulting in Campo Cruz being fatally attacked with a machete. The trio allegedly disposed of his body afterward.

Search efforts have intensified at a nearby dumpsite, where evidence suggests the remains may have been left. Photographic evidence shared by sources marks the suspect's house in red and the search area in blue and yellow.

Since January 24, Elien Campos, José Alberto's daughter, has used Facebook to seek assistance in locating her father. "My father, José Alberto Campos Cruz, 65, known by many in Morón, vanished on January 3. After being with friends, he was en route home along the Patria road between the Rafaela bridge and Carlos Lens, where he lives, when he disappeared," she wrote in her initial plea for help.

At the time he went missing, he was wearing a red T-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers. He was also riding a women's Chinese bicycle with new gold and white tires. "We haven't heard anything since," lamented Elien, who reported the disappearance to the authorities.

In early February, Elien expressed her distress over the lack of news: "Daddy, it's been a month without you, and these have been the worst days of my life. I won't rest, surrender, or accept that there are no traces of you. I will fight to find out what happened to you, my dear old man. Wherever you are, know that your little girl won't rest until she knows what happened. I miss you dearly and only pray for strength to keep searching everywhere. I love you, my dear old man," she wrote.

On February 21, her desperation grew, and she called for more community and official support in her search: "Dad, I'll do whatever it takes, no matter the cost, to find you. It's unacceptable for someone to disappear without a trace in such a small town. I need more support from the authorities, and as his daughter, if I don't get answers, I'll go wherever necessary, but I won't accept no trace. Help make this post go viral. A daughter desperate to find her dad, a principled man, a revolutionary who gave everything for this country. Help!" she implored.

The case has sparked outrage on social media, with users expressing shock and anger. "To me, he was the kindest and simplest person I've ever known. I hope justice is served. It's tragic, very tragic," lamented one commenter.

"A great neighbor, man, and friend. Tough on the killers!" stated another.

"My God, what a crime!"; "What is this, for God's sake, what horror!"; "My God, speechless"; "The laws are too lenient with these murderers; they take lives for anything. This is too much!"; "Speechless... Morón, city of terror. We can't even go out; we're terrified," were other reactions.

"This has been horrible; let's hope the law is fully enforced. In fact, there's not much to say, just DEATH PENALTY for those involved. No mercy for them!" declared another user.
