Lada Overturns After Collision with Truck in Havana

Sunday, March 2, 2025 by Mia Dominguez

A Russian-made Lada vehicle ended up on its side after colliding with a small cargo truck on Friday night in Havana. A video shared on the Facebook group ‘Traffic Accidents in Cuba’ captured the incident, which took place on Avenida de La Independencia in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality, right in front of the Ramón Fonst multipurpose sports complex.

Despite the dramatic footage, the post's author confirmed that none of the vehicle occupants were injured. After the collision, the Lada's roof was lodged against a tree on the sidewalk. “I asked around and everyone was fine, just material damage. It happened at the Ramón Fonst multipurpose complex, opposite the National Bus Terminal,” a social media user reported.

Accidents involving trucks and cars in Cuba often result in injuries and significant property damage. For instance, at the end of January, a taxi flipped onto the sidewalk after being struck by a small passenger transport truck in Camagüey.

Earlier in January in the capital, a Moskvich was left on the elevated central median of Boyeros Avenue after being hit by a truck traveling on the expressway. This accident occurred in the morning hours in the Boyeros municipality, near the Capdevila Polyclinic, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Just days before the start of 2025, a serious accident occurred at the entrance of Granma province. A trailer and a jeep collided at night, resulting in one driver sustaining minor injuries, according to initial reports.
