The well-known Cuban actor Jorge Martínez has opened up about his decision not to attend the funeral of Paulito FG. Despite their close friendship and numerous collaborations on stage and television, Jorge chose a different way to honor his late friend. Paulito FG tragically lost his life in a car accident on Havana's Malecón last Saturday.
Jorge shared his sentiments in a post written by actress and host Yasbell Rodríguez Valdés, who paid tribute to the late singer. "I didn't want, or couldn't bear, to attend his funeral. I prefer to remember him joyful, always joking, constantly thinking about a project. His boundless energy, his atmosphere, being a good friend, a great partner, and supporting newcomers — that's how I want to remember him, and I know you do too," Jorge expressed.
Yasbell Rodríguez shared several photographs of her and Paulito taken in Cuba during their time on the TV show "Sonando en Cuba," a program created and directed by Paulito, where both she and Jorge were hosts. "They say gratitude isn't eternal, but mine for you certainly is," Yasbell stated on her Instagram account.
"When I got the news yesterday, I couldn't process it. So many memories flooded back of us laughing together, me stubbornly arguing with you during work processes, and you patiently explaining every detail as we were headed for success," Yasbell, who now lives in the United States, recounted. "I remembered every lesson, every opportunity you offered, and how you always believed in me. (...) You never stopped dreaming, filled with art, because that's who you are, and will forever be: an icon of culture and magic to our ears," she added.
