Sunday, March 9, 2025 by Henry Cruz

When Wilber Gutiérrez, best known for his beloved character Chacón, arrived in the United States, fans eagerly awaited his interview. The burning question was whether the popular Cuban comedy show, "Vivir del Cuento," had indeed ended. The scoop went to his colleague and good friend Andy Vázquez, with whom he shared the stage for many years in Cuba.

Amidst laughter, Gutiérrez shared how he was "tricked" by his wife into leaving Cuba. "I wasn't very interested in visas, and she tricked me... 'Let's go to Nicaragua to buy some things to sell here because we're struggling'. When the show went off the air, she got the tickets and everything. I have a huge fear of flying, and when we got there, she said, 'Come on, we have to leave'. I was like, 'Leave to where?' She said, 'Come on, I've got everything set up, and we continue'. I'm a bit of a coward, you know," the artist recounted humorously, confirming the rumors of the end of Cuba's most popular comedy show.

Gutiérrez admitted facing numerous challenges during his journey, mainly due to his notoriety among the Cuban community. "I was scared. I spent almost four months in Mexico, which was a constant stress, moving from rental to rental... There are many Cubans in Mexico, good and bad. I didn't worry about the good ones, but you have to watch out for the not-so-good ones," he confessed.

During the interview, viewers were curious about the possibility of "Vivir del Cuento" continuing in Miami. Both artists see this as a real possibility and would love to make it happen. They are even considering whether the new season should be set in Cuba or follow the characters living in Miami. Hopefully, these plans materialize soon, allowing us to enjoy the laughter these characters bring once again.
