Yuniel Luna, a father from Sagua la Grande in Villa Clara, has taken to social media to highlight the theft and misdirection of essential goods meant for children in Cuba. His son, nearing his second birthday, has scarcely received the items that are supposedly guaranteed to him.
"In theory, when a child is born in Cuba, parents receive a coupon for essentials like perfumes, a mattress... but my child has gotten very little of that. Kids in Havana seem to get more than those in the central regions of the country," Luna expressed in frustration during a Facebook livestream.
This week, upon visiting the designated store to check for any arrivals for his son, he encountered a disheartening reply: expired ration books do not qualify for any purchases. Confronted with this reality, he questioned the government directly: "What fault does a one or two-year-old child have in the chaos you always create? Not even children are immune to theft and disorder."
Luna further accused that items meant for infants, such as mattresses, are surfacing on informal platforms like Facebook and Revolico. "Children have no escape, no hope in this nation. It's not just adults who are deprived of rice, sugar, and face 22-hour blackouts. Now it's also the theft and chaos affecting children, who previously received some aid but now get nothing," he lamented.
Ultimately, the father demanded accountability and action against the corruption within the distribution system: "If you claim to provide, and it doesn't reach us, who is to blame? Who should be imprisoned and judged? Go investigate whether those responsible for distributing the goods are actually doing their jobs, because many of the primary thieves hold positions you appoint."
The video has garnered over 21,000 views. Nevertheless, there has been no official response from the authorities regarding this issue.
