Recently uncovered details have surfaced regarding the tragic murder of a Cuban woman in Camagüey earlier this month by her former partner, a man who was serving a prison sentence but used his leave to commit the heinous act. Facebook user Irma Broek identified the victim as Marialedys Abad Morgado, aged 55.

According to Broek, Marialedys was brutally beaten, strangled, and raped in her own home located in the Albaisa neighborhood of Camagüey. The perpetrator of this crime, Yoel Caballero, fled the scene after committing the murder but was later apprehended by the police in the municipality of Guáimaro.

Speaking to Martí Noticias, Lisbania Ortega, the younger of Marialedys' two daughters, revealed that Caballero was serving his sentence in a correctional facility associated with the maximum-security prison known as Kilo 8 in the province. "We don't understand why he was on leave; he should have been locked up, but it seems he had connections inside and was frequently let out. She was aware that he was capable of harming her at any moment," she stated.

Lisbania explained that her mother and the aggressor were in a romantic relationship for about two years, but after their breakup, he refused to accept it. "He harassed her a lot, and the necessary actions were not taken. He should have been reported in time," she said.

"She didn't report him because she feared he might retaliate against one of us (the daughters), as she seemed to be scared of him. He threatened her two or three times," Lisbania added.

She further detailed that the murderer "first assaulted her, which weakened her; he strangled her and then raped her after she was dead."

"There's very little protection for women. It's impossible for a woman to defend herself against a man. My mom was quite strong. I'm sure if he had given her a chance, she would have fought for her life. To all the women who go through this, I urge them to report it, not to be afraid," she emphasized.
