The Cuban Fire Department successfully extinguished a blaze inside Havana's Amadeo Roldán Theater on Friday, believed to have been ignited by acts of vandalism. The National Concert Music Center announced on Facebook that the swift action of the firefighters ensured the fire was promptly managed, resulting in no physical damage or injuries.

A statement from Indira Fajardo, head of the Cuban Institute of Music, confirmed that the fire was the outcome of vandalism by individuals not affiliated with the institution. Authorities have pledged to implement additional security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. However, they did not address the fact that this neglected facility has become a refuge for several homeless individuals in Havana.

Fajardo emphasized the importance of safeguarding iconic cultural venues like the Amadeo Roldán Theater but failed to acknowledge the years of neglect by the government, which has allowed parts of the theater to become overgrown and serve as shelter for the homeless. Last year, social media posts highlighted how vegetation was overtaking the Amadeo Roldán, once the headquarters of the Pro-Arte Musical society, as the magnificent structure faded in view of those who cherish Havana's cultural heritage.

Pedro Luis García, an admirer of the city's historical beauty, lamented in April that the architectural gem “is becoming a forest where garbage grows and elements hide within its ruins.”
