Young Woman Goes Viral with Humorous Take on Cuban Life's Daily Struggles

Sunday, March 16, 2025 by Albert Rivera

A young Cuban woman's humorous video has taken the Internet by storm, capturing the everyday challenges she faces despite her best efforts to remain unbothered. Cynthia Ríos, a digital content creator with over 101,000 Instagram followers, encapsulates in just over a minute the hardships faced by Cubans amid the nation's widespread crisis.

Ríos, hailing from Santiago, humorously recounts her experiences of going seven days without water at home, returning hungry from the streets only to find no electricity or gas to cook, and being left without even a candle to light up during a blackout. However, the moment that truly makes her lose her cool is when a friend living abroad tells her she wants to return to Cuba because of her 'sacrificed life.'

"Return, return to where? Where the hell do you want to go back to?!" she exclaims in disbelief.

In just three days, the video has amassed 53,673 likes. "This is a double-edged sword. You enjoy the humor but feel the pain," commented one user. Another sarcastically remarked, "The communist paradise." A mother confessed, "How do we end up here? You try to take it with humor, but it's truly stressful." An emigrant detailed, "Totally true, and they still ask if I miss Cuba. No, I don't miss hunger, misery, bureaucracy, scarcity."
