On Sunday, Cuba's Ministry of Education announced modifications to the school schedule due to a complete disconnection of the National Electric System (SEN), necessitating the adaptation of educational activities to each region's unique circumstances. As a result, while most educational institutions will resume classes on Monday, March 17, schools in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Mayabeque will remain closed until Tuesday, March 18, according to the state-run newspaper, Granma.

This decision was made after assessing the availability of essential services such as water and electricity. External and semi-boarding schools are instructed to conduct at least one session per day, depending on the current local coverage. School administrators will communicate specific details about the new schedules to students and their families.

In light of the current situation, there is flexibility regarding the wearing of school uniforms, allowing students to attend classes without them. The Ministry has urged the educational community to stay in close contact with institutional authorities, who will provide updates based on the evolving conditions in each area.

Last Friday, Cuba experienced another nationwide blackout following the total disconnection of the SEN. However, on Sunday, the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant in Matanzas reconnected with the SEN after completing necessary technical adjustments for its reactivation. Gradually, millions of homes are regaining power.
