The Mexican Navy, acting as part of its Coast Guard duties, detained 14 Cuban nationals near the port of Progreso in Yucatán. According to an official report from Telesur Yucatán, these individuals were traveling on two vessels, one operated by two Mexican citizens, in what is being investigated as a potential human trafficking incident.

The operation was executed by personnel from the Maritime Search, Rescue, and Surveillance Station (ENSAR) Yucalpetén, backed by the medical team from the Naval Hospital of Yucatán. This action followed an anonymous tip-off about an overloaded small boat sighted in the area.

After receiving the tip, the Ninth Naval Zone dispatched two Defender-type vessels with naval personnel who successfully located and rescued the boat occupants, taking them to ENSAR Yucalpetén. There, the migrants underwent medical evaluations, which determined that most were in good health except for one man suffering from severe dehydration, who was sent to the Naval Hospital for treatment.

Following the interception, the individuals were handed over to the National Institute of Migration (INM) for further processing. Meanwhile, the two Mexican citizens were turned over to the General Prosecutor's Office to assess their involvement in the human trafficking offense.

The Mexican Navy reaffirmed its dedication to maritime safety and the safeguarding of human life at sea. They also reminded the public that emergency contacts remain open, including the hotline 800 MARINA 1 (800 6274621), for reporting emergencies.
